Mary O'Brien, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of the University of California, Los Angeles, will initiate a study using new methods for detecting and aiding people at risk of psychosis. It will involve two groups, a multifamily group and a group of high-risk adolescents, and will compare two approaches, psychoeductional with the multifamily group and skills training with the adolescents. The pilot study should demonstrate the feasibility and acceptability of the approaches and offer preliminary evidence regarding differential effectiveness, thus laying the groundwork for a larger study. Testing innovative treatments for at-risk populations will contribute to understanding factors that may forestall or prevent the onset of psychosis. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia\Psychosis |
