Nonna Otmakhova, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of Brandeis University, will examine the role of the NMDA receptor in cortical outputs to the hippocampus. A technique called whole cell patch clamp analysis will be used. These pathways may be of critical importance in schizophrenia, which has been associated with a deficiency of the associated neurotransmitter glutamate. This work may therefore lead to new targets for antipsychotic medications. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
