Christian Otte, M.D. (Young Investigator 2008) of University Hospital of Hamburg, will evaluate the association of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with several biological and behavioral factors that may increase risk of cardiovascular disease in an existing double cohort of 250 American veterans with PTSD and 250 American veterans without PTSD who are being recruited for the Mind Your Heart Study. The goal of the Mind Your Heart Study is to examine the prevalence of coronary heart disease in patients with and without PTSD. This proposal will allow us to add measures of several biological and behavioral factors that may explain the association between PTSD and subsequent cardiovascular events. Understanding the mechanisms of association between PTSD and cardiovascular disease will allow early targeting of preventive therapies to prevent the onset and progression of cardiovascular disease in this population. Program Area: ANXIETY DISORDERS\Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) |
