Jagoda Pasic, M.D., Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of University of Washington, will examine whether platelet activation is a contributor to heart failure in patients with co-existing depression. P-selectin, a potential indicator of platelet activation, will be measured in these patients. It has been previously shown that depression predicts future heart attacks, but the mechanism for this increase is unclear. Thus, this work might lead to the identification of risk for heart disease among depressed patients. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Depression (Unipolar) |
