William M. Perlstein, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of University of Florida, is investigating brain function in patients with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) using a unique symptom-cognitive activation paradigm. This paradigm requires maintaining emotionally arousing and neutral information “in mind” in order to guide task performance. Brain activity will be measured to assess where and when it occurs in response to both cognitive processing demands and emotional stimulation. This work may further knowledge of cognitive processing abnormalities in patients with OCD, and their contribution to the symptoms of this disorder. Program Area: ANXIETY DISORDERS\Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) |
