Michael A. Rapp, M.D., Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2006) of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, plans to use genomic approaches to identify genes involved in major depressive disorder. Dr. Rapp will use existing microarray data from the Mount Sinai brain bank to identify genes expressed in recurrent major depressive disorder compared with healthy controls. Finding the collection of genes, he says, could potentially aid in the development of novel treatments for this condition, especially in treatment-resistent patients.
