Laura Redwine, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2000) of University of California, San Diego, aims to determine the relation of depression to measures of functional capacity in older adults with congestive heart failure; and examine the role of sympathetic nervous system and the immune system as mediators of the links between depression and functional impairment in these patients. Depression is thought to impact a variety of health outcomes and result in dysfunction among patients with heart disease. Dr. Redwine will examine both sympathetic nervous system and immunological abnormalities in patients with congestive heart failure. This work may lead to a better understanding of the impact of depression on congestive heart failure. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Depression (Unipolar) |
