Edwin M. Robertson, B.M., D.Phil. (Young Investigator 2001) of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, is investigating how disruptions in the ability to order information in time plays a role in neuropsychiatric disorders. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is known to cause the temporary disruption of cortical areas, and consequently can provide critical observations relating to sequencing ability. Patients with schizophrenia in particular have difficulties with this task. Thus, an integrated use of functional brain imaging and rTMS, is proposed. This work may offer fresh insights into the neurological basis of sequence learning. Program Area: MULTIPLE FOCUS AREAS\Schizophrenia/Unipolar |
