Ema Saito, M.D. (Young Investigator 2003) of Long Island Jewish Medical Center, is studying whether the use of psychotropic medications increases the likelihood of having abnormal glucose tolerance or type 2 diabetes among obese adolescents. She will compare 4 groups of obese subjects: 1) those on atypical antipsychotic agents, 2) those on divalproex sodium, 3) those on combination of an atypical antipsychotic agent and divalproex, and 4) controls of unmedicated obese adolescents.
