Lisa M. Shin, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2003) of Massachusetts General Hospital, is studying the brain mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of PTSD. Dr. Shin will use PET and FDG imaging studies to determine whether resting relative regional cerebral metabolism for glucose in medial prefrontal cortex, orbitofrontal cortex, and amygdala predicts response to cognitive-behavioral treatment in patients with PTSD. A growing functional neuroimaging literature has suggested the potential importance of medial prefrontal cortex and amygdala in the pathophysiology of PTSD. Program Area: ANXIETY DISORDERS\Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) |
