Claudio N. Soares, M.D., Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2003) of Massachusetts General Hospital, is seeking for a better understanding of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and its role as a potential adjunctive treatment for managing depression. HRT has been shown to relieve various somatic symptoms and depression. He will study 50 perimenopausal and postmenopausal women diagnosed with major depression of which one-half will receive antidepressants and HRT and the other half will receive only antidepressants for 8 weeks.
