Alina Suris, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VA), is attempting to determine whether administration of a diagnostic interview in a culturally sensitive setting with bilingual interviewers will lead to more accurate psychiatric diagnoses of Hispanic patients. For this purpose, 100 Hispanics attending a public psychiatric clinic will be randomized into treatment and receive the SCID in their preferred language, Spanish or English. They will also receive a questionnaire that assesses psychiatric symptoms, global health, and quality of life. This study might lead to improved diagnostic assessments in this patient population.
