Gilles D. Tamagnan, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2003) of VA Connecticut Healthcare System, West Haven Division (VA), aims to develop new chemicals for positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT), in order to image the glutamate system, which is emerging as an important neurotransmitter in schizophrenia. This study will characterize an important subtype of glutamate receptor, called the mGluR5 receptor. Specifically, Dr. Tamagnan will develop a new radioactively labeled compound to image this receptor. The ability of this compound to bind to the mGluR5 receptor will be assessed. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
