Debra Titone, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2000) of McLean Hospital, will administer specific cognitive tasks that tap into hippocampal function in patients with schizophrenia. These tasks are specific to the hippocampus. Dr. Titone will then determine whether task performance correlates with hippocampal volumes using MRI. It is predicted that failures in a particular type of performance--apprehending relational structure--should correlate with reduced hippocampal volumes. This study should lead to further investigations aimed at elucidating the brain abnormalities underlying schizophrenia. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
