Gustavo Turecki, M.D., Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2000) of Douglas Hospital Research Centre, aims to investigate risk factors for suicide completion in major depression, particularly focusing on impulsive/aggressive behaviors. Suicide is one of the most important and concerning complications of many psychiatric disorders, including major depression. Most psychiatric research has focused on suicide attempts, rather than completion. Thus, the study of risk factors for suicide completion represents an important, but neglected, research area. This work may ultimately facilitate the prevention of suicide in patients deemed to be at high risk. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Depression (Unipolar) |
