Helen Verdeli, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2000) of Columbia University, will develop and test a preventive program for adolescents whose mothers have bipolar disorder. The program aims to: teach the family facts about bipolar disorder; help the family express their feelings about the disorder's impact on the children; and help adolescents build skills to deal more effectively with interpersonal situations. The results of this study may eventually facilitate the prevention of the occurrence and severity of affective disorders in the children of bipolar parents. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Bipolar |
