Nicole M. Vittoz, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of the University of British Columbia, proposes to systematically explore the effects of centrally administered hypocretin (HCRT) on prefrontal cortex (PFC) neuronal activity and PFC-dependent cognition. Dr. Vittoz hypothesizes that optimal level of HCRT activity may improve "efficiency" in PFC processing during the performance of cognitive tasks. This research is important because dysfunction if PFC in critically involved in a variety of higher cognitive and affective processes, which are associated with schizophrenia. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
