Bin Xu, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2008) of Columbia University, will explore the behavioral, cellular, and molecular contributions of abnormalities in microRNA biogenesis contributing to the psychiatric symptoms associated with 22q11 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS), a well-defined genetic lesion associated with very high risk of developing schizophrenia. Dr. Xu’s prior work has implicated not only the connection between the alteration of microRNA processing and the cognitive and behavioral deficits of certain mouse models, but also the potential important role of microRNAs in the cognitive and psychiatric symptoms of the human syndrome. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS |
