Chun Xu, M.D., Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, University of Toronto, will study a susceptibility chromosome (TRPM2) in bipolar disorder. A highly significant association between TRPM2 genetic variants and BD was recently reported in two independent case studies. Dr. Xu seeks to identify functionally causative mutations of TRPM2 responsible for BD using newly discovered four cSNP’s. The results of identification of causative mutation(s) of the TRPM2 gene will provide key knowledge on the molecular genetic basis for development of BD and novel insights into etiological factors for this complex trait.
