Lise Rioux, Ph.D.

Lise Rioux, Ph.D.
Young Investigator

Lise Rioux is currently a Research Assistant Professor and the Scientific Director of the Laboratory for Bioimaging and Anatomical Informatics, in the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy, at Drexel University College of Medicine, in Philadelphia, PA.

She completed a B.Sc. in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the Université du Québec in Trois-Rivières, Canada. She received her M.Sc. in Genetics from Laval University in Québec City, Canada, where she also received her Ph.D. in Neurobiology. Following training as a FRSQ and NINDS post-doctoral fellow, and as a Research Associate, in the Departments of Pharmacology and Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Dr. Rioux became Research Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in 2002. She joined the faculty at Drexel University College of Medicine in 2003.

Her awards include two undergraduate merit awards (Bourse Girardin-Vaillancourt in 1981 and Bourse d’excellence du Syndicat des Professors de l’U.Q.T.R. in 1982), a CRSNG Undergraduate Summer Student Award (1981), a MRC (1982-1987) and FRSQ (1987-1989) studentships, a FRSQ (1991-1994) and NINDH (1991-1995) postdoctoral fellowships as well as a Professional Enrichment and Growth Grant from Drexel University College of Medicine (2006). As Principal Investigator, she has received three NIH funded RO3 grants and an Alzheimer's Association Pilot Grant. She is also Co-PI on an Innovation GRID Award from the Pennsylvania Tobacco Funds.

Her major research interest is to study the molecular neuropathology and genetic mechanisms of olfactory deficits in schizophrenia. In the last few years, her focus has been on the olfactory bulb. With its lifelong plasticity and regeneration, it offers a unique area to investigate the role of susceptibility genes like neuregulin in the etiology of schizophrenia.
