Eunice Y. Yuen, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of State University of New York, Buffalo, seeks to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the serotonergic regulation of glutamate signaling in prefrontal cortex (PFC) pyramidal neurons. Particularly, Dr. Yuen will investigate how serotonin, via distinct receptor subtypes, regulates the NMDAR-mediated neurotransmission in PFC, which is important for cognitive and emotional processes. Results from this study will provide significant insights into the serotonergic regulation on synaptic transmission and plasticity in PFC, which may contribute to new approaches for treating depression. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Psychotic Major Depression |
