Fengquan Zhou, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2008) of the Johns Hopkins University, is interested in glycogen synthase kinase 3α and β -- also called GSK-3s -- which are involved in many psychiatric disorders, such as bipolar disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and schizophrenia. This involvement, Dr. Zhou notes, is most likely due to their important roles in neurodevelopment. To better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying these diseases, he believes it is important to elucidate how GSK-3 activities are regulated in neurons, and how such regulation affects neural development. These are the goals of this study. Program Area: MULTIPLE FOCUS\Mood Disorders/Schizophrenia\Alzheimer's Disease |
